We (well, I) have a commitment to make one new meatless meal each week. Hubby was reluctant, but this recipe was a big hit! Only change I made was to cook these at 375 degrees for the last 10 minutes. The salsa was great. I would consider using the salsa on grilled swordfish perhaps as well.

LOVED this recipe. Probably my favorite bean burger recipe so far. The salsa is awesome. I used a potato masher for the beans.

I have made these too many times to count. Sometimes I use different cheese; whatever I have left over. I use canned jalapenos and leave half without for the kids. NO CILANTRO for us. And I use one large egg. (Never know what to do with the two remaining yolks.) I haven't made the mango salsa yet. Serve with sour cream, salsa, guacamole, on a bun or not. Always well received.

I love these as a healthy, delicious vegetarian option. I left off the bun and make black bean cakes over a salad dressed with lime juice and olive oil. Since I was working out of the pantry, I made a few substitutes which made them better than when I made them according to this recipe. I used chipotle in adobo rather than jalapeño, used cheddar cheese, and used pineapple in the salsa rather than mango. I made the salsa the night before, which helped the flavors meld better and cut down on prep time the night of. It's in my regular rotation now.

The salsa for this was really good, but I would use less shallots and finely chop them. they were a bit over-powering and made it a bit strong for my tastes as well as the kids'. Otherwise, the burgers were good. I Would make it in a food processor to save time in the future. Without the salsa, the burgers were a bit bland. My leftovers needed something and I used sliced avocado.

The black beans were taking too long to mash so i threw them in a food processor and that got the job done nicely! You could really throw everything in there and pulse till it's combined. I didn't add cheese and I think that they would've been more moist with the addition of 1 egg yolk vs. just the egg white. The salsa is sooo yummy. overall. yummy burger.

Wow. Completely delicious and JUST as satisfying as a beef burger (which is a lot for me to say)! Was skeptical about the consistency but it turned out perfectly. Served it like a regular hamburger with onion, pickle, tomato etc. Will be adding to the regular rotation for sure.

We liked these a lot and found them filling and tasty. My only changes were in method of prep and cooking. I made them into patties the night before and chilled them, and thus they did not fall apart at all in cooking. Instead of baking, I microwaved a minute just to warm them up, then finished in the black iron skillet with 1 tsp. olive oil, just a minute or two per side over medium heat. Served with sweet potatoes and asparagus for a fun dinner.

I didn't have avocados so I used fresh pineapple with the mango instead. Omitted the garlic in the salsa. Was so delicious!

Made these without the salsa and they were still a huge hit with my husband! Served them on Hawaiian sweet rolls with regular salsa. A must-try!

The mango salsa is amazing. Make sure to buy double the amount because you'll want it! The burgers are a tasty vegetarian option. They can be dry, but the salsa moistens them up nicely. Do know that this is a labor-intensive recipe and it takes time and muscle to mash up all of the beans for the burgers.

Love it! I like to make a batch on the weekend and have a lunch I can take to work for a few days. Must have the mango salsa topping, which for me, makes this a seasonal dish.

A family favorite in our house! My 3 kids (9, 7, and 3) think they are better than burgers. They are easier to eat (less falling apart) if you let them cool slightly before serving. I use tortilla chips crumbled instead of panko to make them gluten free, and normally use precooked dried beans instead of canned. I also seldom make the salsa to go with them. Otherwise, I prepare as written, and they are fabulous.

While my burgers did not fall apart as other reviewers said they did seem "raw" inside. I loved the flavors, used a whole jalapeno and they were not spicy at all, next time I will follow others sugestions and add some chipoltle.

We love this recipe but I did alter it a little. I have tons of NM green and red chiles so I put chopped green in the salsa. I used powdered NM red chile powder in the burgers instead of what recipe called for. If you have Chimayo heirloom chile it would be even better! We also don't care for cilantro and omitted that.

My creative living teacher picked this exact recipe to make in class and it was awesome! You can taste every single thing without the blending of flavors. The mango and alvacado POPS against the blackbean burger! I highly recommend!

Sooooo yummy! Despite the significant prep work, I will definitely be making this again. The only change I would make is to use whole wheat pita instead of the hamburger buns. Maybe it was operator error, but the burgers fell apart as we ate them and I think pita would contain them better. This is a great recipe!

My family and I really enjoyed these. I added a chipotle pepper with some adobo sauce to give it a little kick and it was perfect. I also used a whole egg and did not serve it on a bun because I though it would take away from the delicate flavors of the black beans and salsa. I will definitely make this again.

This is a great weeknight staple. It's hard for me to find good, ripe mangos in my neck of the woods, so I added some chopped pineapple for sweetness, along with a chopped tomato. I've made this twice- first time as written and the burgers were a but crumbly. Used a whole egg the 2nd time and they were perfect. Also- I think any good plain bread crumb would work- panko is fine, but not necessary.

This was a very tasty and quick meal. I also used the potato masher to mash the beans and it worked well. I would maybe add a bit of chipotle spice to the bean mixture to give it an extra kick. Yummy and I will be making this again.

The black bean burgers are yummy! Definitely use a potato masher to speed up the process of making them... and grease the cookie sheet well. My burgers stuck to the pan a little.

The best black bean burger I've made. I didn't like it on the bun. It seemed like too much bread/carbs but it was delicious by itself. I'm with whoever said to forget the fork and go straight for the potato masher!

My husband and I loved these-my kids weren't so sure. I told them to expect a burrito flavor on a bun-so they wouldn't think it would taste like meat. They ate them, but were less than thrilled. The salsa is superb! I don't do spicey, so I left out the jalepeno. Delish!

One of the best black bean burger recipes I've tried. Soft consistency like all black bean burgers, but I didn't have any trouble keeping these burgers together. Flavors were perfect in the burger and salsa. Didn't change a thing and won't in the future. Can never have too much cilantro! Forget the fork when mashing the beans - use a potato masher!

Tried to sneak this in on my family and got caught. It was good but for a meat and potatoes family it wouldn't fly as meat. Everyone thought it was like eating black bean dip on bread. I loved them and ate the leftovers as sandwiches for lunch.

First time trying black bean burgers, and they were great! Might try cooking on the stove at the end of the cooking process to make them a little crispier next time. Will definitely make again - great as a quick meal. The mango salsa was tasty!

This is the best black bean burger recipe I've made so far. I have another CL recipe that has been a favorite for a few years, but this one is even better. I made the recipe exactly as written but I didn't serve it on a bun, I just ate the burger patty with the salsa. Will definitely make again.

Liked the salsa a lot. The black bean burgers were tasty, but a little bit crumbly. I enjoyed them and would probably make them again. I used pepper jack cheese instead of monterey jack and jalapeno; seemed to work well.

Very tasty - a great, healthy weeknight recipe. I have trouble in the past with black bean burgers either oozing out of the bun or crumbling into pieces. You do have to be careful flipping but these held together nicely. The salsa was very good but you could make this even faster by subbing a store-bought fruit salsa. I will definitely make this again.

Very easy to make. I left out the jalapeno. The mango salsa added extra sweetness and moisture. I will make again and likely add quacamole and/or sour cream to the bun.
